When you are taking pictures whether it is for your own personal photo albums or you have a great interest in photography, you want to have the very best equipment possible. This includes everything from the camera to the lens to the camera case. The camera itself comes with just the camera but if you are really into photography then you may want to upgrade yourself by choosing a quality photographic lens. If you are a novice in the world of cameras, how can you tell that you are getting a good quality lens?
There are different types of lens out there to choose from, they are not all the same. You have Wide Lens, Standard, Fisheye, Zoom, Macro, Prime and Telephoto. Here is some information about each style lens and what you need to know.
Wide: A wide angle lens has a shorter focal length than the standard lens does. It has a wider area that can be brought into the frame. Standard: A good quality standard lens is the difference between a wide-angle lens and the telephoto lens. The best quality range of a standard lens for a digital camera should be 35 mm to 80mm.
Fisheye: A fisheye lens is a very wide-angle lens that lets the photographer catch images at 180 fields of vision. The lens will take the distorted or out of focus image and bring on out in the middle which is said to be close to a fish's eye. The quality fisheye lens will have a 180-degree view and it is perfect for panoramic views.
Zoom: A quality zoom lens has many different focal lengths, there can be various combinations such as the wide to normal, wide to telephoto and normal to zoom, a quality zoom lens will have as many different photographic combination, try to avoid the single or double combination, the good lens always have better features.
Macro: A Macro Lens is a lens of basically any focal length, mainly a standard or short telephoto will do. This will provide a very close focusing distance to the image. A good quality macro lens features a 1:1 life size reproduction ratio, these are perfect for extreme close up photography.
Prime: A good Prime Lens has a fixed focal length. This will allow for a non-zoom or any adjustments to the focal length. There are some less quality prime lens that offer an adjustment or two; these are not quality prime lens.
Telephoto: A good quality telephoto lens will allow you to zoom in on far away images. This lens provides the widest range of all focal lengths that we mentioned here. These lenses are big and bulky and take up some room. A good quality telephoto lens has a range from 80mm to 1200mm and more.
